It has been a good year for Edinburgh Synchro. We have 45 members, almost all of whom competed in at least one competition this year. Here is a summary of the year.
In March the Inter District competition was held in Buckie and many of the Skill Level swimmers represented East District. In the figures competition Louise came first and Rachel second in the Skill Level 4&5 category; Jennifer came first and Megan second in the Skill Level 3 category, and Niamh came third in the Skill Level 1 & 2 category. East District won the overall Elizabeth Hamilton Trophy for Skill Levels 3, 4 & 5 and the overall Shell Oil Trophy for Skill Levels 1 & 2.In June the Club Championships were held in Bellshill and the club was well represented by all our teams. Louise won the Solo event and the Edinburgh A team came third in the Combination Team event. Edinburgh Synchro came third overall in the championships.
In September the girls took part in a swimathon and raised a massive £590, which was split between the club and Scottish Autism’s Swim for Autism campaign.

In October the Scottish National Championships were held in Glasgow. The club had three girls competing in the Age Groups (where the competitors have to be a certain age and have completed a set Skill Level). Jennifer came third and Leah fourth in the National 13, 14, 15 category in both Figures and Solo Competitive. Niamh came third in the National 12 and under Figures. The Edinburgh A team competed in the Open Free Combination Team Recreational event and came third. Edie Turner, a swimmer who trains with Bristol but is affiliated to our club, came first in the National Junior category for both Figures and Solo Competitive. She also won Scottish Synchronised Swimmer of the Year 2014.
In November, 10 beginners from the club took part in the Novice Competition in Bo’Ness. Cale came second in the Figures event. Amélie and Laia came third in the Duets.
Individually the swimmers have continued to work towards their Skill Level assessments. Emma, Lauren, Niamh and Samantha passed Skill 1. Aman, Emily, Maya and Niamh passed Skill 2. Leah passed Skill 3.
What a year! Thanks so much to the coaches who give up so much of their time to train the swimmers.
Next year will be similar, with the girls working towards competitions in their groups and individually towards their Skill Levels. Here are the important dates for 2015. Not all of the swimmers will be required at all the events but it is good to keep them in your diary just in case.
Skills Assessment Day – Bo’Ness – 1 March
InterDistrict Competition – Royal Commonwealth Pool – 28 March
Club Championships – Aberdeen – 20 June
Skills Assessment Day – Bo’Ness – 6 September
Scottish Nationals – Glasgow – 24/25 October
Novice Competition – Bo’Ness – Date to be confirmed but will be in November
UK Nationals – Venue to be confirmed – 4/5/6 December
One final date for your diary is the club AGM and display. This will be at the Royal Commonwealth Pool on Sunday 25 January at 14:30. After the meeting the girls will do a display in the pool at 17:00. It would be great if you could join us.
Synchro training restarts on Tuesday 6 January for the early risers, Wednesday 7 January for Portobello and Sunday 18 January for the Commonwealth Pool. We are disappointed that the Sunday sessions are starting this late but it is unavoidable as the pool is closed on Sunday 4 January and there is a competition on Sunday 11 January at the pool so we are not allowed to train.
Have a wonderful holiday and best wishes for 2015.
